JAKARTA - However the holy month of fasting has not even started, most have already made plans to go home to celebrate the end of it. Yesterday all tickets for all classes in trains from Jakarta to various cities throughout Java were sold out. Tickets for departure five days before the end of the Ramadan were even sold out completely.
PT. Kereta Api sells tickets only one month before departure. Other dates, closer to Lebaran, will most likely also be completely sold out when they come available. Residents in Jakarta do not have to buy their tickets at one point since there are 18 official agents that sell train tickets. People can also go to the nearest train station to purchase their tickets.
Trains that will be used to transport these numbers of passengers around Lebaran will eventually eight or nine wagons long. Normally families do not travel together, as children and wives depart earlier while the husband still has to work a few days, so they will follow later. The most crowded period for travel will be seven days before until seven days after the first day of Lebaran.
