JAKARTA - Indosat is to launch the Palapa D satellite at the end of this month. The Palapa D satellite will replace the Palapa C2 which will be operational until 2011. This information was made public by the general director of Indosat, Harry Sasongko, at the Satellite Building at the Palapa satellite station in Jatiluhur, Purwakarta in West Java province. The Satellite Building will be used to keep track of the satellite and it's traffic.
Sasongko emphasized that the Palapa D satellite has a much bigger capacity than the current Palapa C2. The satellite has 40 transponders with 24 standard c-bands, 11 extended c-bands and 5ku-bands. The satellite covers entire Indonesia, other ASEAN countries, the Middle East and Australia. The satellite will mainly be used for national and international television and radio broadcasts.
