JAKARTA - Cleaning the streets in Jakarta is almost impossible, but last night, members of the highway police of the Greater Jakarta Police swept the streets clean. Clean of nails that is. Jalan Gatot Subroto in the direction of Slipi and Kolong in Semanggi were cleaned by a special nail-weeper. The nail-sweeper only roamed the streets for a few hours from 23:30 to 02:00 local time, but during that time it managed to clean the streets of some two kilograms of nails.
The people cleaning the streets, led by Dodi and two other members of the police, said they cleaned the main street from Semanggi to Slipi and back; Jalan Asia-Afrika, Jalan Tendean, Jalan Gatot Subroto and back to the police headquarters. Most nails were found on Jalan Gatot Subroto in the direction of Slipi. The 'evidence' has been brought to the Traffic Management Center. The nail-sweeping action was held after many complaints from road users that got a flat tire because of the nails.
