YOGYAKARTA - It was an old-fashioned Saturday evening in Jogjakarta. A part of my life that I left behind for a new life a few hundred kilometers away. I didn't miss a thing about it in the last two months, but when I am 'submerged' in it once again, it is fairly easy to pick up the old rhythm again. That is exactly what I did, together with my girlfriend and a number of friends in town.
With the thought that I had to be at a friends house at nine in the morning in the back of my head we left for the northern part of the city to eat at Pak Slamet where others sell bebek goreng (fried duck) in his name. Simple meals with white rice and some lalapan (cucumber, white cabbage and sorts as addition to your meal). For 13.000 Rupiah you will get a meal here, add a few thousand for a drink as well. That is worth the drive all the way to the north from the far south of the city.
After a nap in the late afternoon, we met with friends at the movie theater to watch a movie. Just in time - according to Indonesian culture; the movie had just started - we sneaked in to sit down at the already reserved chairs in the back of the theater. A nice view at the screen from there. Public Enemy is a nice enough movie with Johnny Depp by the way. We did not have time to buy a snack, so we had to spend the two hours watching the movie without a snack.
After the movies we decided outside that we would go to Cafe Bintang in Jalan Sosrowijayan, almost directly behind the main train station. Beer is cheap there and around the time the movie was finished the place would probably full with drunk Javanese and tourists. Not a real problem, but you can't really write more about it as well. Cafe Bintang was too full however, so we decided to go to Lucifer, at the end of the street. There we had some seats and we enjoyed the cold beers until after midnight.
It was just after one in the night when we were back at our room. A quick shower and some hours of sleep. I had made the promise that I would pick up the Dutch family next door at Duta Guesthouse at nine. They were supposed to join me to go to the residence of a friend. I woke up at seven again, and I received a telephone call at half past eight. I did not have to pick them up anymore, because they had already found the address themselves. We arrived soon after that.
The 'meeting' was a nice mix of chatting, meeting, making batik for the little ones and eating. Just like it goes in Indonesia and like I expect it to go when I am in Yogya. Dropping by without too many questions and difficulties. Last moment meetings are no problem here, and doing something in between is possible very well because everything is compacted in this city. That is different in Lippo Cikarang. Maybe this is something I will going to miss?

Malam mingu I have been in cafe tropis together with indonesian friends in cafe tropis near jl. Solo. A very nice place with good live music. Unfortunely a little after midnight some idiots from fpi spoilt the evening and try to raid the club. They just want to frighten us in which they succeeded. within 15 minutes they were gone with the help of the police. Probably the tourist area of sosrowijayan and jl. prawirotaman is saver to go to.

It is because - especially Prawirotaman - is protected by moslim hoodlums.

If they go there, they will only go out there in body-bags, so they search for weak spots with an easy way out. This time was the main road to their Islamist brothers in the city of Solo I suppose. Cowards.
