YOGYAKARTA - It has been two months ago that I left from Yogyakarta to move to my new house in Lippo Cikarang. Now everything has settled down - for some time already by the way - it is about time to go back to the city where I spent almost three years of my life. As I told before, I did not move from Yogyakarta because I had to, so returning is not a big problem for me.
Earlier on in July I already booked two tickets at AirAsia. For 300.000 Rupiah per person we would be in Yogyakarta again. Because I did not know what the entire planning would be, I was not able to buy a return ticket right away. The second of August I would have a batik session - in all those years that I lived in Yogya I never did that, because living somewhere or going somewhere as a tourist is different - with a lunch afterward. After that our schedule was free again, but taking it slowly is not a problem as well. We would be able to buy some oleh-oleh as well.
Upon arrival yesterday in the late afternoon I directly rented a brand new Honda Vario. Only two kilometers on the counter and even the STNK (license plate registration card) was not ready yet. A surat jalan (permission to use the motorcycle before the STNK is ready) from the local police is enough certainty though. Two new helmets and it was just like 'the old days' driving a motorcycle in this city. The sun was already setting, so soon it became colder. That evening we did not have elaborate plans since we got up at our regular time of seven in the morning.
After a quick dinner at ViaVia - my girlfriend wanted to eat there, however I already knew that it was nothing special, also because they are listed in the well-known Lonely Planet - we took a short rest before we headed to cafe Janur at the end of Jalan Prawirotaman. As usual the beer was really cold and as usual the same people were at the bar for a chat in Dutch. I was tired and after just three beers it started to play up. It was far before midnight when we left from there.
I also had to make a short visit to Rui's, along Jalan Parangtritis, a few hundred meters away. I have good memories about that location so the least I could do is show up there as well. I already expected that the staff was still the same and they even remembered my name. Nice to notice that Yogya isn't changing that much after all. Good that a short trip by plane brings us back to the biggest village of Java, Yogyakarta.
