MATARAM - An MD90 plane with flight number GT 652 which belongs to Lion Air skidded off the runway at the Selaparang airport on the island of Lombok. The plane had just arrived from Jakarta when it skidded over the runway. Based on information the pilot should have turned the plane at the end of runway 09, but did this earlier on the runway. The airport was closed for 3.5 hours and two other flights had to wait for their departure.
The 162 passengers on board of the plane were safely evacuated from the plane by buses. They were brought to the terminal building some 800 meters away. One of the passengers, Rahman, told that the plane suddenly made a sharp turn. Not long after that incident, the flight crew asked the passengers to wait in the airplane for half an hour without any information.
The station manager for Lion Air at the airport near Mataram, Indra Aprianur, explained that the plane didn't experience an accident. "Only when the turn was made, the pilot turned too extreme. It should be only 90 degrees, but this was more. Until the point the plane got stuck," told Indra. Eventually the plane was evacuated to the plane parking space. It was not able to fly anymore.
Again an MD-plane that causes problems. Lion Air should really give it a thought to stop flying with those things.
