MATARAM - Mount Barujari, the most recent volcanic cone of the Mount Rinjani volcano on the island of Lombok in the Lesser Sunda Islands is once again erupting. The volcano erupted for the first time last Wednesday. The eruption of the almost 4.000 meter high volcano does not cause tremors. Local residents are not worried about the current eruption of the volcano.
Early on Sunday it was reported that the intensity of the eruption was increasing. Since around 07:00 local time there were dozens of eruptions. The sensitivity of the volcano keeps increasing, but hikes organized on the slopes of the Mount Rinjani volcano are not stopped yet.
People at the observation post for the volcano see the eruption not as very dangerous because the volcano is still inside the old Mount Rinjani caldera. Climbers however should be aware that the volcano is active and can possibly release poisonous gasses. The last time that Mount Rinjani erupted was in September 2004.
