PEMALANG - The volcanic activity of the Mount Slamet volcano keeps on increasing. Where there were first some hundred tremors a day which lasted between 20 and 95 seconds, now the volcano also emits molten rock up to heights of 900 meters from the peak of the volcano. The volcano has now released lava some 80 times. The eruptions that occurred today were much bigger than those recorded yesterday.
"The volcano keeps on producing tremors and lava eruptions. This is a clear sign that the activity of the volcano is still increasing," said Sukedi, the head of the observation post for Mount Slamet in Gambuhan, Pemalang. According to him, the volcano will keep on producing material for the time being. "The volcano is now not only exhausting ash from it's crater, but sand mixed with stones. There are stil ash rains, but they are still light and do not directly endanger human life. Most of the ash is blown to the west of the volcano.
