JAKARTA - The Anak Krakatau volcano in the Sunda Strait is once again exhausting hot rocks. The current condition of the volcano forced the Volcanologic and Geological Mitigation Center to raise the alert status of the volcano from 'aware' to 'careful' earlier today. According to seismographic readings there were 126 small eruptions, 149 exhausts of hot steam and over a hundred tremors over the course of a week.
Observers at the observation post for the Anak Krakatau volcano in the village of Hargopancuran in South Lampung said that the volcano also exhausted some hot stones from it's belly, which caused the number of tremors and the intensity of the tremors to increase. "The quakes happen at a depth of some 15 kilometers," said Andi Suwardi, head of the observation post.
The tremors that are currently produced by the volcano are too small to be felt by residents in the area of the volcano. The warning that people should stay away from the summit of the volcano is still in place. The hot stones can cause serious injuries and even death while the volcano also exhausts poisonous gasses from time to time.
