JAKARTA - The Greater Jakarta police is investigating the head of the Public Works department of Tangerang, Eddy Adolf Nicolas Malonda. He was called in relation to possible corruption with funds meant for the improvement of the Situ Gintung dam, which collapsed last week. A Jakarta police representative said that Eddy was called to give answers to some questions. "Until now the cooperation is optimal," he said.
He added that the police is currently giving more attention to the human factor of the story. "We focus on the identification of the victims and the rehabilitation of survivors," he said. The possible corruption is in relation to the maintenance of the dam, in which 1.5 billion Rupiah (1 million euro) is supposed to be taken by civil servants of the Public Works department of Tangerang.
"Don't judge anyone yet. Nothing is proven. The police also has to work as professionals," he said. Chryshnanda also said that he was not able to name any other people that were to be summoned to the police headquarters in relation to the possible case. The police first contacted the Public Works department at March 31. Eddy only presumed his post as the head of the Public Works department March 17.
