LUMAJANG - The plan of religious leader Abu Bakar Ba'ashir to bring a visit to Lumajang has caused a strong reaction from local Muslims. They reject the arrival of the Muslem cleric from Solo. They say that a majority of the people in Lumajang will feel uneasy with a visit from him. "We strongly are against a visit of Abu Bakar Ba'ashir to Lumajang," said Abdurrohim, one of the Islamic leaders from the Tompokersan sub-district in Lumajang.
According to him, Ba'ashir is spreading a rebellion against the government. He is known to support a stream in Islam that is known for it's anti-government ideas. "Abu Bakar Ba'ashir often utters doctrine to fight the government," he said. He sees the teachings of Ba'ashir as a danger to the unity of the Indonesian people. He also urged for locals not to attend the event where Ba'ashir will speak. "I hope that the Muslims here will be careful not to let themselves be taken away by the words of Ba'ashir ."
Ustad Sahroni, resident of the village of Wates Kulon in the sub-district of Ranuyoso, also said that the locals should not attend the meeting of Abu Bakar Ba'ashir . "I represent the Muslem community here. I am strongly against the arrival of Ba'ashir to Lumajang," he said. According to him, a big part of the Muslims does not feel comfortable with the arrival of Ba'ashir during the Idul Adha. "I hope the arrival of Ba'ashir will be canceled completely," he added. Not only words are aimed against Ba'ashir, the representatives also wrote an official letter to the major, the regional police chief, the regional branch of the Council of Islamic Scholars and some other government institutions.

Hey, that's something funny; the silent majority is speaking out here. Nice to see that it is possible. Hopefully more will follow.

Yes, the silent majority is now making their voice heard. I, for one, is against Abu Bakar Ba'ashir even though I am a Muslim.
