JAKARTA - PT Jasa Marga will open an extra stretch of new toll road later this month. This is done to anticipate upcoming high tide and floods that usually hit the area as a result of this. The general director of Jasa Marga, Adityawarman, said that at the moment the stretch of new and elevated toll road has to be finished earlier than scheduled before. The stretch of toll road with a length of eight kilometers costs 600 billion Rupiah (40.5 million euro) to build.
As a matter of fact, the stretch of toll road was due for delivery December this year, but as an emergency effort to prevent the toll road from being blocked by flooding once again, it will be officially opened 20 November. "We will give permission to all drivers to make use of the new stretch of elevated toll road," he said. The elevated toll road is not only built to prevent it from flooding, but also because the area was overcrowded with traffic.
The constructor also constructs a five kilometer embankment with a height of two meters which starts at the Kapuk toll booth. The height of the embankment is enough to keep high levels of seawater away from the road there. Last year the toll road was flooded several times with water sometimes as high as one meter. The lowest point of the road is at KM 26 of the Sedyatmo toll road.
