JAKARTA - Since July 21, the former governor of West Java province, Danny Setiawan, was kept as a suspect by the anti-corruption agency KPK in a case related to heavy equipment and fire trucks bought by the West Java government with state funds in 2004. Yesterday, Danny Setiawan was officially arrested by the KPK.
At the time of his arrest he was wearing a blue uniform. He refused to give comment to the press when he was leaving the investigation room of KPK around 18.30 local time. Danny just smiled to reporters and was directly brought to a car for prisoners. A spokesman for Danny, Abidin, said that the supply of the heavy equipment and fire trucks was not based on an order from the Ministry of Internal Affairs. "This was an order from R. Nuryana (an earlier governor) at the time Danny was only a secretary in 2003."
Two other suspects in the same case are the head of the Cultural and Tourism department of West Java, Ijudin Budyana and the former head of the Equipment Department of West Java Wahy Kurnia. They have not been arrested officially as of today but they were both earlier questioned by the KPK.
