JAKARTA - Three Islamic militants on death row in Indonesia for their involvement in the deadly 2002 Bali bombings say they have no regrets about carrying out the attacks. The twin nightclub bombings killed 202 mostly foreign tourists. Speaking with a group of reporters Wednesday at a maximum security prison on an island in eastern Indonesia, the bombers warned that retribution would come to those who carry out their executions.
The bombers say their friends will kill prison guards and police responsible for their executions. The three are expected to be executed by a firing squad soon. The exact execution date is unclear, as the militants lawyers are appealing the method to be used to put them to death. Their attorneys describe the use of a firing squad for their execution as "inhumane," because it may not kill the convicts instantly. The men say they would rather be beheaded.
All three of the militants, Amrozi Nurhasyim, Imam Samudra, and Ali Gufron, are members of the al-Qaida-linked terror group Jemaah Islamiyah.
