JAKARTA - Indonesia's justice ministry has denied a prison transfer request by convicted Australian drug smuggler, Schapelle Corby. The ministry says Corby has only served four years of a 20 year sentence and her request may have been granted if she had served more of her sentence.
Lawyers for Corby had requested she be transferred from Kerobokan Prison in Denpasar, to Bangli Penitentiary which is closer to the Australian Consulate, citing mental health reaons. Corby was found guilty and sentenced to 20 years in prison by Denpasar District Court, for smuggling 4.2 kilograms of marijuana into Bali in 2005.
