JAKARTA - The Jakarta monorail project that has been stalled for years already because a lack of funds is now back in the hands of the central government and the provincial government of Jakarta. Jakarta governor Fauzi Bowo said that the involvement of the central government was required because of the big amounts of money involved in the project. "Why has the central government to be involved? Because the provincial government can not pay for it alone," he said.
At this moment there is also involvement of the World Bank, but the governor said that was just due diligence. During the coming process Fauzi has to decide whether the project is still feasible. This will include compensation for PT Jasa Marga, the construction company, in a professional matter if needed. "The help from the World Bank comes in handy because we didn't make a final decision yet," Fauzi said.
