MASOHI - Again violence between members of the police and the army in Masohi, Maluku. Early this morning, a member of the 731th battalion attacked a member of the regional police in Central Maluku. This incident was reported to Major General Rashid Qurnain which was in Masohi at that time. He also reported that at one member of the army was killed and one was injured. According to the police, three of their members died in the clash.
At this moment the situation at the scene is strained. There were armed members of the military outside the station of the battalion. The Major General reorganized all of his troops again however. This incident started with the beating of a soldier by a member of the police of 31 January. "The beating was just a reminder, because the soldier was the one who was wrong," told Rasyid.
After the beating, members of the police and military had a fight. The problem was also spoken about at higher levels. The soldiers that were beaten have not yet returned to their station yet however. After the beating there were several provocations by the members of the 731th battalion. According to Rasyid, last Thursday they broke into an arms storage. In that incident the guard was beaten as well.
