IITF 2008 - Holiday fair offering discounted travel packages JAKARTA - With the theme 'Plan Your Holidays Ahead', the Indonesia International Travel Fair 2008 which is considered to be an important event in the Visit Indonesia Year (VIY 2008) calendar of events, will be held on 27-30 March 2008. Balai Kartini Expo, located at the heart of Jakarta, was chosen to be the venue for IITF 2008 which is a one-day B2B and a 3-day consumer show where the Jakarta consumers can purchase domestic and international travel packages at very special prices.

Mr. Panca R. Sarungu, Project Director IITF 2008 said "We want to educate the public to get information for their holidays at the same time start planning earlier for their school holidays in June and July so they are able to get special prices." With this goal in mind, the organizers have invited exhibitors to offer very special prices which will only be valid during the event days. "Our target visitors are 30.000 who will be coming from Jakarta and the nearby areas especially the A&B class and target transaction is Rp. 25 Billion". To target the right market, the Organizers will be implementing a promotion program worth Rp.2 Billion by cooperating with 15 medias including 3 television stations.

"If Malaysia has the MATTA Fair and Singapore has NATAS, both held twice a year, we should also have a yearly event as well", said Regional Sales Director, Aston International, Mrs. Paula Purba, a participant at the event. Paula added that the opportunity for hard selling or direct selling to consumers during this event will enable us to observe and analyze the market behavior especially in the leisure market.

The domestic market last year was valued at Rp. 87 Trillion and is expected to be the major player in this event. Several regions have expressed their intention to participate, Nusa Tenggara Barat has even coordinated with the local hotels and will accommodate 36 sqm meters at the exhibition. Six National Tourism Organizations from Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, Turkey, Eygpt and Tunisia have also confirmed their participation to target Indonesian market.

This pure private initiative is jointly organized by PT. Prakarsa Sinergi Utama and RajaMICE.com.And is supported by ASTINDO (Indonesian Ticket Sellers Association), ASITA Jakarta (Indonesia travel agent association Jakarta Chapter), Indonesian Tourism Council and Jakarta Tourism Board.

Trade visitors

To provide an opportunity for the business transaction, the Organizers has opened the first day, Thursday, 27 March for Trade, including travel agents from outside Jakarta to do Business to Business (B2B) transactions. The exhibitors on the first day will be given the opportunity to meet with the trade visitors which consist of travel agent, PCO, event manager corporate and media. "We are also going to invite around 3000 corporations that consist of secretaries and decision makers who wish to have information regarding Meeting, Incentives, Convention & Exhibition (MICE)"

To support the VIY 2008, the organizers are inviting 50 foreign buyers which consist of wholesaler, top outboud agent, Corporate event manager from ASEAN countries in the hosted program. This program has the support of the hotels in Jakarta who will be providing accommodation facilities and local and international airlines who will be giving special discounts.

Panca sees the need to coordinate the B2B travel mart organizer so the buyers can plan their trip during this time where neighboring countries are aggressively promoting their tourism. "Indonesia has TIME/ Travel Mart as the yearly B2B arena which is held in September 2008, and we are looking into the possibility of cooperating in terms of cross selling awareness with the organizers.

Vice Chairman of the Indonesian Tourism Council (MPI), Mrs. Meity Robot extends her support to the private sector who is assisting in the Indonesian inbound tourism. " I hope IITF 2008 which will be held in March will become one of the force promoting Tourism early this year".
