BOJONEGORO - Thousands of hectares of rice paddies in fifteen sub-districts in the district of Bojonegoro, eastern Java, are destroyed or have rotten away because of flooding from the Bengawan Solo river. The area of rice paddies that has been completely destroyed is located in the sub-districts Purwosari, Kalitidu, Kapas and Truk. To prevent the losses from rising even further, a number of farmers decided to harvest the damaged crops any way.
The farmers hope that the regional government of Bojonegoro will support them in replanting the other rice paddies. The help they need mainly consists of seedlings or rice and fertilizer. According to the Disaster Relief and Management Team in Bojonegoro, a total of almost 13.000 hectares of rice paddies was flooded and the crops on it should be seen as completely lost.
