NGAWI - Thousands of residents of the districts of Genong and Kwadungan in Ngawi, eastern Java, are forced to spend the night on top of the roofs of their houses because of flooding. They can only wait for help there. The evacuation process is a slow one because there is a shortage of boats. Floods still inundate the area where waters reach heights of around three meters.
The evacuation of the victims is not running very smooth because there is only one rubber boat in the area, owned by the Indonesian Navy. There are three boats which have been rented by villagers. Thousands of people are in need of rescue however. Evacuation routes are only available for villages around the area with the most severe flooding. The victims which are forced to stay on their roofs also don't have to count on emergency help for the moment.
