The luxury of a swimming pool in your hotel BANDUNG - After the trip by train and a nice glass of teh hangat (see "Lodaya Malam to Bandung, trains run on time") it was time to continue our trip. We didn't reach our goal for the day, however it wasn't that far anymore. We had to end up at the Jayakarta hotel which was located in the northern part of Bandung. We realized that a free nights' stay in the hotel would not come totally free of course. I can admit - without any feeling of shame - that I don't want to spend my money on that kind of hotels. The 'free' part is a very important part in this story.

Just outside the train station - at a few hundred meters from the gates - we found a Blue Bird taxi. The reason that they don't wait in front of the gate is that they are not welcome by their 'opponents', which try to protect their income in other ways than offering good service, namely with threats. Fortunately the difference is all too clear, so clear that even tourist like us are able to pick the best one, a Blue Bird, which are generally known for their quality and service. We were brought to the hotel within the shortest possible time. There we were and it was quite easy as well.

What exactly is it that we are doing here? Well, that is quite simple. We are able to get a free nights stay here because the sister of my girlfriend is here as well, a business trip. We were invited to enjoy that as well. Not in the last place because traveling alone from conference to conference is not always that amusing. For me that was a nice deal, we got a bed and a swimming pool and she some company for the time we were there. I took the time to take a look at the hotel. The three-star hotel and rooms that are not available for less than 70 dollar per night (booking via the website, maybe at the counter they are more cheap) is located in the northern part of Bandung, in Dago Atas ('Upper Dago') and offers a nice view over big parts of Bandung, when the weather is fair enough.

However I am not a fan of swimming pools and I don't visit 'spa's' at a weekly basis, I just saw some opportunities to just enjoy what was about to happen as long as it was possible. The swimming pool was free and the spa had to be paid for. That was something that was worth while paying for. So it happened that I decided to enjoy the spa for a while by using the sauna. It was quiet, so I was able to do everything according to my own schedule. No problem with that of course.

After three rounds in the sauna the night had already progressed and it seemed a good idea to me to enjoy the swimming pool for the moment. However it was dark and very quiet already I still wanted to give it a try. Soon I noticed that it wasn't a problem at all to use the swimming pool at this time of the day. That was an amazingly positive answer and within one minute I entered the water to do some exercise in the swimming pool that was shaped like a strange bacteria.

This luxury is something I don't have in my daily life indeed. Maybe just because of that I can perfectly enjoy things like that. After that night I decided to get some sleep early, so I would be able to enjoy a sunrise from the hotel. It turned out that the weather wasn't good enough so I could pack early to look for a more cheap place to stay for the days to come. That hotel had to be closer to the city center as well, because this far north is not really a convenient place during the evening and night hours.
