PORONG - Repairs on the crooked railway track on the line between Siring and Jatirejo in Porong, south of Sidoarjo - close to the hot mud flow from the Lapindo Brantas drilling well - has been completed with success. The repairs started on Monday evening and lasted into Tuesday. The condition of the track between the villages of Ketapang (in Tanggulangin subdistrict) and Siring (in the Porong subdistrict) has been fully restored.
Suseno, regional chief of PT KAI, the Indonesian State Railway company, in eastern Java, said that the crooked pats of the railway track caused worry and discomfort to passengers. However the track is now fully restored, the railway management keeps the maximum speed limit for this stretch at a mere 10 kilometers per hour.
