YOGYAKARTA - Adi Sucipto airport in Yogyakarta was temporarily closed yesterday afternoon because of strong winds and heavy rain. It reopened at 14:15 again after the weather had improved. The departure of a Garuda flight to Bali (GA 252) had been delayed by one hour. The plane was scheduled to depart from the airport at 13:15.
A Garuda plane which departed earlier from Jakarta failed to land in Yogyakarta and flew back to Jakarta because of the strong winds and heavy rain that hit parts of the city for half an hour between 13:30 and 14:00 local time. A staff member from the Apron Movement Control of PT Angkasa Pura I - the airport operator - said that flight GA 208 was scheduled to land at the airport at 14:05 but it decided to fly back to Jakarta because that was the closest option.
Yet another Garuda Indonesia plane, GA 433, from Mataram made some extra circles over Yogyakarta before landing safely at 14:38. Strong winds together with heavy rain that hit parts of the city of Yogyakarta yesterday caused damage to some houses and left trees uprooted.
