YOGYAKARTA - At least eight people have died in a plane crash at Yogyakarta's International Airport, Adi Sucipto. The plane crashed and exploded at 7.08 local time Wednesday. An airport operations manager from Adi Sucipto Airport reported that the ill-fated plane skidded off the runway, crashed into an embankment and exploded.
He said some people escaped unharmed, including Muhammadiyah chairman Dien Syamsuddin, while other passengers remained trapped inside the burning plane of Indonesia's flag carrier Garuda Indonesia. The number of passengers remained unclear but several of them were rushed to local hospitals.
