JAARTA - Budget carrier Adam Air has grounded six of it's Boeing 737-300 planes. They should have their safety inspection first after one of it's aircrafts fuselage broke during a rough landing at Surabaya's Juanda airport an official of the airline said today. All Boeings 737-300, almost one third of the entire airlines fleet, will not fly until they had passed the governments safety inspection, as was said by Hartono, safety director of Adam Air.
The government has increased safety investigations since an Adam Air plane disappeared over Sulawesi waters at the first day of this year. "The planes will be checked before they can fly again, so all the 300-series will not fly today," told Hartono to Reuters from Surabaya, where he was inspecting the broken aircraft. "The check is a preventive measure. If there's nothing wrong with the planes they can be flown again."
All 148 passengers on the aircraft that made the rough landing on Wednesday were fine, but the incident caused Surabaya's Juanda airport to be closed down temporary. Surabaya is Indonesia's second largest city and the capital of the province of East Java. The body of the plane cracked in the middle of the passenger section, it's tail on the ground.
On January 1, an Adam Air Boeing 737-400 with 102 passengers and crew disappeared from the radar over Sulawesi waters during a domestic flight from Surabaya to Manado in North Sulawesi. The black box has been located, but it remains on the bottom of the sea together with the rest of the plane and it's passengers.
