JAKARTA - Indonesian haj pilgrims need an integrated lodging complex or Indonesian Town in Mecca to give better services to them, Indonesian Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Salim Segaf Al Jufri has said. The Indonesian ambassador made the reamrk in a press release available at the Religious Affairs Ministry`s Haj Media Centre here Sunday.
According to Salim, the presence of Indonesian Town in Mecca is expected to give better facilities to Indonersians who are on the haj pilgrimage in the holy land. He pointed out that in the early stage, a pilot project constructing six or seven buildings to accommodate Indonesian haj pilgrims should be set up. "The expected integrated lodging complex should be completed with health facilities, offices, shopping centres as well as restaurants selling healthy and inexpensive foods," he said.
Salim called on businesspeople to take part in the effort to materialize the idea and let them to take profits and maintain emotional relations with Indonesian pilgrims. "Let`s see a number of owners of lodgings where our haj pilgrims stay provide them with foods free of charge," he noted. He disclosed that a person had offered a plot of land in Bahutmah area in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, and the offer had been conveyed to Indonesia`s Religious Affairs Minister Maftuh Basyuni in the hope the idea could be materialized soon.
Multi-storey buildings have been set up for haj pilgrims in Mina, he cited, adding that such buildings would likely be established for Indonesian haj pilgrims in Mina in the future. To set up Indonesian Town, the Indonesian government was expected to take measures including a special diplomatic approach by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono to the Saudi government, he added. "I am confident that the Saudi government will give good response to the idea of establishing such an integrated complex to accommodate our haj pilgrims," he said.
