JAKARTA - The lack of infrastructure in information technology in Indonesia has made internet access still expensive. "Cost for downloading internet in Indonesia is about 13 to 15 times higher than Japan. So, in term of speed, the downloading ability is still far from what we are expecting," said Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Digital Media Technology, Sony Tan here, Monday.
He said that infrastructure was a basic thing in internet service. At the moment, he said, internet contents had developed so fast, but with downloading speed at only 16 kilobyte per second much time would be needed. According to Sony, Indonesia needs a huge investment in internet infrastructure.
He suggested government to give free access to 220,000 schools in Indonesia in order to help students get useful information. According to him, Indonesia has potency to make internet access cheaper by doing huge investment for informastion and technology.
