JAKARTA - Indonesia has a great opportunity to grab around 60,000 jobs offered by the South Korean government in the sectors of industry, manucfacturing, construction, agriculture, fishery and stock breeding. The placement of workers in South Korea is currently not done by Indonesian labour recruitment agencies, but directly by the manpower and transmigration ministries of the two countries as stipulated in a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed on October 29, 2006.
"Under the employment permit system (EPS) or government to government system, prospective workers will not have to pay any registration fees and will receive their wages on the basis of the minimum wages in South Korea," Manpower Placement and Promotion Director at the Manpower and Transmigration Ministry Ade Adam Noch said her, on Tuesday.
In the meantime, industrial affairs attache at the South Korean embassy in Indonesia Shin Dong and Labour Employment Director at the South Korean Manpower Ministry Woo Man Sun said that their government only served Indonesian prospective workers for direct employment in Korea without going through third parties, to avoid levies.
The prospective workers who have the the right to register themselves for this program are those who have passed a Korean language test, 18 to 40 years old, no police records, and healthy. "But it is no guarantee that those who have registered themselves will be sent to Korea, because it is the labor employment companies who will make the decision according to labour needs. The workers would be leaving for Korea are those who have secured a contract, had followed training and obtained a work visa,` Shin Dong Hak said.
After paying a transportation cost of Rp6 million, their legal status will be equal to those of Korean workers.
