SIDOARJO - The flow of mud after the breaking of the dam near pond A in Desa Kedungbendo, Tanggulangin, is still growing. It doesn't only flood the TAS housing complex, but it also flows to the west and approaches Desa Ketapang, Tanggulangin. Since last Saturday morning, the mud started to overflow the flood channel in front of primary school Kedungbendo 3. Not long after it started to overflow the area of the school, not long after the school had been evacuated.
"I'm sure that it doesn't take much longer for the mud to enter the village of Ketapang," said Sutamto, one of the residents of Kedungbendo (RT9-RW3). He said it will probably
take less than three days before the mud will start flowing into the village along the tollroad that runs from Surabaya to Porong. The flow of mud started to threathen the village of Ketapang, which is quite alarming. This because this village is the direct border wit the main road, including the railroad track.
Outside that, according to Sutamto, the breaking of the dam of pond A wasn't calculated for. "A few days ago it was still far away, but since Saturday evening it started to flow quickly again," said Sutamto. The situation near pond A until Sunday afternoon was that the dam was still damaged. "It just broke again Saturday evening. The old places we already repaired," clarified Suradi, one of the workers of the project which reporters found working on the spot.
At the moment of the report there was not much activity. There wasn't much to be rebuild and reinforced to dams as well. Not much trucks with building materials were arriving near the location. "It indeed lost some of it's importance after the explosion of the gas pipe, but I don't know if that is the reason," said Suradi. A few residents of Perum Tanggulangin Anggun Sejahtera (TAS) already felt the heat as they have not yet been evacuated until Saturday evening. They told that their water supplies had been compromised by the mud from the Lapindo well. "Lapindo and the local government of Sidojaro should supply fresh water to the people of the TAS housing complex."
