DOHA (QATAR) - Indonesian men`s double Luluk Hadiyanto/Alvent Yulianto failed to follow the step of their countrymate Taufik Hidayat who succeeded in contributing gold in men`s single after defeating his Chinese arch rival Lin Dan. In a game held at Aspire building, Sport Center of Doha, double Luluk/Advent were easily overpowered by their Malaysian rivals Koo Kien Keat/Tan Boon Heong in a strait set, 13-21 and 14-21.
"I am very upset with the result, even we could grab silver," Alvent said after the game.
Luluk/Alvent, as world top seeded double players who have been absent from international arena for two years, hoped that they would be able to gain a new record in this year`s Asian Games. In fact, they were not able to defend themselve from speedy attack launched by their Malaysian rivals Koo/Tan.
Luluk/Alvent seemed to have lost their mind in the field, as they often made mistakes, thus giving more points to their Malaysian rivals. "We have tried to play in relax in the second set as a strategy to find out our rythem in the play, but we could not. Our rivals kept on attacking us with their sharp smeshes and net play. However they played better at that night," Alvent said.
In the meantime, Taufik Hidayat who appeared earlier than that of the men`s double turned the tables on arch rival Lin Dan with a stunning upset win over badminton`s world number one to win Asian Game gold on Saturday. Olympic champion Hidayat who suffered two defeats in team play at the Games to China`s world champion, capitaized on a string of uncharacteristic errors from Lin Dan to win the first game 21-15.
Indonesia had the more assured touch at the net but Lin found range with his defeating smash early in the second and had the chance to level against things at game point, thus giving him a victory in a score of 21-20.
