JAKARTA - Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono said here Thursday that the Indonesian government did not have any plan or wish to take over or nationalize foreign companies in Indonesia and he asked foreign firms to continue doing business in the country without any worry.
"I guarantee that there will be no nationalization of foreign companies," the head of state told 400 foreign businessmen from 20 countries taking part in the Indonesian Regional Investment Forum. Yudhoyono said it was high time for foreign investors to do business or increase their capital in the country as today Indonesia had a population of more than 200 million, not to mention an increasing per capita income.
"Per capita income will hopefully rise to about 1,500 U.S. dollars late this year or up from 1,300 U.S. dollars late last year," Antara news agency quoted the president as saying. Yudhoyono asked provincial administration officials to utilize the forum and forge cooperation with investors.
The forum was aimed at reducing the poverty rate, creating job opportunities and cutting foreign debt, he said. "For next year the government will allocate 6 billion U.S. dollars to undertake various kinds of rural infrastructure projects, create jobs and reduce the poverty rate," the president said.
