YUZHNO-SAKHALINSK (RUSSIA) - Two Beriyev Be-200 amphibious planes of the Russian Emergency Situations Ministry have left from Khabarovsk for Indonesia for putting down forest fires. Their mission will last for over a month. According to updated reports, 27 million hectares of forests are on fire in Indonesia, while haze has spread onto over 550,000 square kilometers, the press service of the ministry’s Far Eastern regional center said on Sunday.
The haze has become a national disaster and a serious factor for the ecology of neighbor countries and the merchant navigation in the Malacca Strait. The Be-200 will fly above China and Vietnam and fight the fire on Sumatra and Kalimantan.
