JAKARTA - However a representative of the Indonesian police told media that the death penalty for Amrozi and his fellow bombers will be the firing squad, Amrozi rejects such a death. He prefers a lethal injection or the electric chair. This was spoken out by Achmad Michdan yesterday in a discussion over the way of executing death penalties in Indonesia. According to Michdan, Amrozi and the other convicted Bali bombers prefer to be executed according to islamic regulation, instead of being shot to death. "According to islamic regulations, a person who is convicted to the death penalty should not feel any pain when they are actually executed."
If Amrozi and his partners in crime are hanged, then they are dead at that moment. "They don't have to wait for several minutes to be declared dead by a doctor who will be at the scene of the execution solely for that purpose", he said. Nevertheless if their appeal for hanging is refused, there are alternative options like the electric chair or lethal injections as well. "The most important is that they are not executed by the firing squad".
This execution, which will take place soon, has spurred Amrozi's lawyer to seek support from Indonesia's Muslim Council to order a so called fatwa over this way of death centence. "This is their last wich before the executions will take place," according to Amrozi's lawyer. Abdul Halim Ritonga, Crime Prosecutor of the Attorney General, mentioned that such a request would not be agreed upon because Indonesia is not a country which follow islamic regulations. "Following a Constitutional law from 1964, executions should always take place via the firing squad." He added that there is no way of negotiating another way of death penalty. "The Constitution should always be followed".
Earlier, a representative of the Indonesian police also refused Amrozi's request for death penalty by hanging. He also said that if the execution by firing squad takes place, it would not be painfull for very long, just a few minutes. The group of police officers that will perform the execution later will be prepared according to regulations. The execution will not be painfull, in contrary what Amrozi thinks.
At this moment, Amrozi and the other convicted Bali bombers are waiting for their appeal, scheduled somewhere in the islamic holy month of Ramadhan. And also Amrozi's lawyer plans to ask for a judicial review based on the Constitution regarding death penalties (UU 2/1964 tentang Eksekusi Terpidana Mati).

Anyone...????

Ooh well, i's clearly enough that he doesn't want to suffer. Now he calls that 'in the name of islam', but I think he's just a chicken! Let him be convicted and executed the way it has to go in Indonesia, the firing squad.

Well, I thought they love bombs. Why don't they take bomb for execution? It will be less painful for them, plus they can feel what their victims felt.

"According to islamic regulations, a person who is convicted to the death penalty should not feel any pain when they are actually executed."
It's a sheer lie.
600-900 men of Banu Quraiza was beheaded in the time of the "merciful" prophet, including children who started to grow pubic hair.
Some people who killed and stole the merciful prophet's camels were executed mercilessly. Their feet and hands were cut, their eyes were blinded, and they were left to die in the desert.
It's all in hadiths.
