Indonesia to execute Christians despite clemency request JAKARTA - Indonesia will execute three Christians, on death row for triggering sectarian violence among a mob in 2000, despite renewed pleas for clemency earlier this week, National Police chief General Sutanto said here on Wednesday. General Sutanto said the men's fresh bid for pardon would not be valid due to it being against the country's law, which does not allow two requests to be submitted within two years of each other.

The men's first plea was rejected by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono Susilo last year. "The law has ruled (that the filing of the second request should be after two years) and the first one has been rejected," he said. But he did not give details of the venue and the date of the execution. Indonesia has delayed the execution of Fabianus Tibo, Dominggus Da Silva and Marinus Riwu from August 12 to sometime after independence day, which was on August 17, although all preparations for their killings have been made.

The delay also came after protests against the planned executions by thousands of Indonesians. Vatican State Secretary Cardinal Angelo Sodano sent a telegram to President Susilo protesting the executions, shortly before the first planned execution date. The three men were charged with implication in a sectarian clash in 2000 in Palu of Central Sulawesi province.

Sectarian clashes between Muslim and Christians raged in Central Sulawesi province from 1998 to 2000, killing more than 2,000 people before a peace accord was achieved. Indonesia has also sentenced to death three Islamic militants for their implication in the Bali bombings in 2002, killing 202 people. Their executions have also been delayed from August 22, for judicial review planned by defense lawyers. More than 87 percent of Indonesia's 240 million population are Muslim, but in some areas of the eastern part of the country, the proportion of Muslims and Christians is equal.

President Susilo should pardon the 3 Christians of Poso rather then having passed the execution order. If the 3 Poso Muhajeedins who beheaded the 3 school girls can escape execution than then I don't see any reason why the 3 Christians cannot be pardoned at all.

Beschaafde landen hebben [het opleggen van] de doodstraf uit de Grondwet verwijderd. Kennelijk hoort Indonesia hier nog niet toe.

It makes me want to puke.
They are just plain farmers. If you follow the story, it's completely a sad story.
No justice in Indonesia.
The moslem rioters got maximum 15 years.
These three christians got death sentence. And they were murdered without the presence of any pastor. Slaughtered to satisfy the bloodthirst moslems.
