JAKARTA - Indonesia today confirmed its 39th death from bird flu after tests by a WHO-affiliated laboratory showed that a 14-year-old boy had died of the virus, a health ministry official said. 'Ibrahim Ahmad, 14, was positively infected with bird flu, according to the results of tests by the WHO-affiliated laboratory in Hong Kong,' said Ningrum from the ministry's bird flu centre.
The boy died last Wednesday, the same day he was admitted to a South Jakarta hospital. More than 120 people have died of bird flu around the world since late 2003, the majority of them in Asia.
