JAKARTA - Indonesia's Press Council has ruled that the publishers of Playboy Indonesia broke the organization's "journalistic code of ethics" through the distribution of its first issue earlier this month. That violation hinged on Playboy Indonesia's failure to ensure the men's lifestyle magazine wouldn't be sold to children and adolescents, a statement posted on the Press Council's Web site late Friday said.
The Press Council is a non-governmental body composed of publishers and government officials whose functions include settling public complaints about the media. Although the Press Council's rulings are mainly symbolic due to the body's lack of enforcement capacity, the organization's condemnation of Playboy Indonesia adds to criticism that has greeted the publication's April 7 debut.
Playboy Indonesia, published by Velvet Silver Media, is a licensed local version of the flagship publication of U.S. media firm Playboy Enterprises Inc. (PLA). Velvet Silver quickly sold out its entire 100,000 debut issue print run. The magazine's publisher and editor-in-chief, Erwin Arnada, told Dow Jones Newswires last week that Playboy Indonesia's retail sales are the responsibility of distribution firms, the practices of which are beyond his control.

The Islamic Defenders Front attacked the publication's editorial offices earlier this month, burning copies of its first edition and prompting Velvet Silver to suspend plans for a second issue of the magazine.
Syamsul Huda, the chairman of the non-governmental organization Indonesian Community Against IPR Piracy and Pornography launched an official complaint earlier this month that alleged Playboy Indonesia's debut issue violated Article 282(3) of the Indonesian Criminal Code.
That article regulates publication, import/export, stockpiling or distribution of materials that "violate morality." Penalties upon conviction for "intentional facilitation of lewd conduct" include imprisonment for up to 16 months. The police complaint prompted authorities last week to interview a total of eleven of Playboy Indonesia's editorial staff about the magazine's operations and distribution.

In a newspaper I saw some very wild and angry looking young men protesting about this magazine. It was really weird! Long, long ago, when I was a boy at that age, I only had one thing on my mind
. 
And as far as I remember all the other folks were just like me and we all know this is just the way things go.
I wonder why these young men were so angry. I guess it must be their frustration that they are not able to go after girls like any normal young men. Or the magazine is too expensive for them or they must be gay and angry that there are no nice looking boys in the magazine.
