JAKARTA - The Indonesian Foreign Affairs Ministry said Monday it received report from Papua New Guinea indicating that three students have fled Papua province for political asylum in the neighbor. "There is an indication (of asylum seeking). The Indonesian Embassy in Port Moresby is working to check the report," the ministry's spokesman Desra Percaya was quoted by the Detikcom news website as saying.
He said a team from the embassy had been sent to gather data from authorities in Papua New Guinea, which shares the island with Papua province. "We are now waiting for confirmation. We don't know their names and condition yet," he said.
