JAKARTA - The launch of Indonesian PT Telkom's satellite scheduled for Nov. 14 will be postponed again mainly due to a ground equipment problem, Telkom General Director Arwin Rasyid said Sunday. The launch has been delayed due to technical problem in gasoline launch table, Arwin said at the Telkom's satellite main controller station in Cibinong, West Java, Antara News Agency reported.
The launch, which was slated to be witnessed directly by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono in French Guinea at 6:45 am on Nov. 13 or Nov. 14 in western Indonesian time, is delayed because of many factors including weather, launch direction accuracy and other technical problems, he said.
Meanwhile, Michael Callari, Arianespace program manager who is entrusted with the launch of the Satelit Tekom-2, said the 1,975-kg satellite would be sent to orbit at the position of 118 degree east longitude above the Indonesian archipelago using an Ariane space launcher rocket. He said, "There are several repairs that must be finished, and we want to make sure that this mission is successful."
The delay in the launch of Satelit Telkom-2 at a cost of 168 million US dollars is the 8th time since last year. The Satelit Telkom-2, which is targeted to be operated for the next 15 years, is scheduled to replace Satelit Palapa B4, of which duration ended in May 2003.
