KUALA LUMPUR (MALAYSIA) - Bomb- maker Dr Azahari Husin will be buried in Jasin, Malacca. His brother and brother-in-law will leave for Indonesia tomorrow to claim his body. Badaruddin Ismail, the spokesman for the family, said: "They have yet to arrange for his burial but one thing for sure is that he will be buried in Jasin." His father and siblings live in Malacca.
Azahari was killed by police on Wednesday as he reached to detonate a suicide belt at a safe house in Batu, Malang, a resort town in East Java. A Wisma Putra official said: "Indonesian officials will not release the body nor let anyone take a look at it if they cannot produce certified documents." Azahari's widow, Wan Noraini Jusoh, regards the death of her husband as an expression of Allah's will, a close relative said today.
"She has come to accept his death," the widow's brother Wan Kamaruddin told AFP outside her home in a suburb of Kuala Lumpur. "She accepts it as fate (decided by) Allah. As Muslims, we have to accept this." Wan Kamaruddin said his sister, who is recovering from throat cancer, was "tired and disturbed", with a media throng camped outside her home since Azahari was shot dead.
