Indonesians raid 'one of world's biggest drug plants' JAKARTA - Indonesian police have detained 12 people after raiding a factory making ecstasy pills and methamphetamines that officers described as one of the biggest such plants in the world. Police said anti-narcotics officers raided the factory on Friday near the city of Serang, about 75 kilometres west of Jakarta.
President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, who has declared war on drugs, would visit the site on Saturday, officials said. Two European men, four Chinese and six Indonesians were detained at the site, Badrodin Haiti, the provincial police chief for the region, said by telephone.

Police seized 100 kilograms of crystal methamphetamines, known locally as shabu shabu, as well as raw materials in more than 300 drums that were to be used to make ecstasy, Mr Haiti said. He said the factory had the one of the biggest capacities for making ecstasy in the world. "This is the third biggest factory that we know of," he said. National police chief General Sutanto, quoted by the official Antara news agency, made the same comment.

The plant had been under surveillance since May, but police waited until production began before moving in, Mr Haiti said. The factory operators had obtained a licence for the plant by calling it a cable factory, Mr Haiti said. Antara said the factory covered an area of four hectares. Samples of the methamphetamines had already been sent to buyers in Hong Kong, Mr Haiti added.

Indonesia imposes tough sanctions for narcotics offences, including death. Despite these penalties, numerous foreigners have been arrested in recent years, mainly for trafficking or possession.

I hope they will spend their lives in Indonesian prisons and I also hope that the Dutch embassy won't undertake any action for him as well. Emoticon: Bye bye

Well, prison is probably just before a firing squad will take their lives. Emoticon: Yes!

If so why only;
1Dutch
1 Fransman
4 Chinese
6 Indonesian
----------------------
12 people

I also hope that Indonesia will not give them permision to spend the rest of their lives in paradise prission (in Holland).
Live in here is 18 year and with good behavior he will be out in 10 years.

I hope one day the Indonesian gouvernment can look rationally to the drug problem by giving heavy punishments to people who make or distribute hard drugs and by giving lenient punishment or a simple fine to drugs users. I'm afraid a lot of people will look down on the Indonesian justice system as long as you can get 15 years in jail for having 1 XTC-tablet in your wallet and giving terrorist masterminds only 3 years jail time. It's a matter of choosing your priorities well.

By the way... does anyone think extremely heavy punishments will ever solve the drugs problem? Just look in the Straits Times how much hard drugs is still imported into Singapore across the Causeway. I dare to say there is more of a drugs problem in Singapore than in our own country (yes, we also have good things here in Holland as well).. Emoticon: Smile

Early this evening I saw it on the TV. Interesting to see that they made the Dutch person unrecognizable in two different way's (face scrambled and with a black square) on RTL4 and the NOS... This indicates for me that the person was recognizable shown on the Indonesian TV (probably as they always do).

B.T.W. SBY sounded very irritated (pissed off)...
