US issues new warning on Indonesian security JAKARTA - The United States has issued a fresh warning to Americans to avoid non-essential travel to Indonesia, calling bombings that killed 23 people in Bali on October 1 "a reminder that terrorists remain active". "The possibility remains that terrorists will carry out additional attacks in Bali, Jakarta or other areas of Indonesia in the near future," says the warning, e-mailed on Thursday to U.S. citizens in Indonesia.

The last full-blown U.S. travel warning on Indonesia was issued in May. Indonesia, the world's fourth most populous Muslim nation, has been hit by a number of bomb attacks in recent year. Several aimed at Western-linked targets have been blamed on the militant Jemaah Islamiah network. Intelligence authorities say it is the Southeast Asian arm of al Qaeda, the group Washington charges with the September 11, 2001 attacks in the United States.

In October 2002, a first round of bombs in Bali killed 202 people, mostly foreign tourists. Deadly car bomb blasts at a luxury hotel in Jakarta and another at the Australian embassy followed in 2003 and 2004 respectively. The attacks in Bali this month hit three restaurants. The 23 casualties included three suicide bombers, according to police.

The new U.S. warning says Americans traveling to spots like Bali should consider security levels at the specific places they go to, and it repeats cautions that any place Westerners congregate in Indonesia could be a target. "Over the past three years, domestically targeted bombings have struck religious, political, and business targets," the warning also says, referring to sporadic attacks across Indonesia's sprawling archipelago blamed on local issues.

One such bombing in May on Sulawesi island killed 22 people. Separatist hotspots like Papua and Aceh also require caution, the warning said.

Strange people the Yanks. After 9/11 they called the whole world to come to NY to support the New-Yorkers. If the same happens in an other country then they give a travel warning instead of supporting tourism for that country.
What's the American word for "munafik"?
Probably afraid that the insurance doesn't pay or that the state will be sued. Poor people, slaves of their own law system.

Your quite right Yogya, after 9/11, airplanes became very dangerous, remember, but (american) high rise buildings stayed save to stay in. For Indonesia, this works differently. Very Strange indeed Emoticon: Confused

america is an easy target but what is ur problem here?!?! every other nation also issued a security warning. only the american made it to the news so. please get real its their responsibility to do so, what the individual does with it is another thing. if people get nervous about going to indonesia now its not their fault.

A warning is okay, but a real travel warning means that your insurance are not going to pay you when you go to that certain area. And that is something which didn't happen after 9/11 towards the USA cause definitely they would have protested because it would cost them a lot of income. Now it's some kind of third world country of minor importance, then it is suddenly an other situation. It has everything to do with the way the USA looks at the rest of the world (and unfortunately also some other western countries).
