Indonesia shuts down Bali bombing film JAKARTA - The Indonesian government has shut down an Australian TV drama series about the 2002 Bali bombings. Producers told the mostly Australian cast in Bali on Thursday the government had revoked their permit due to political and immigration sensitivities, actors for the drama series told AAP. The move follows the second Bali bombings on October 1.

"The producers came in to the lunch room and said our permission has been withdrawn," said a NSW woman hired to portray an Australian police officer, while insisting on anonymity for fear of losing her role. She said the crew was told: "The last bomb (earlier this month) has made the government uneasy and it is reviewing its approval."

"They took all of our props, the walkie-talkies and uniforms, and said thanks everyone for coming. We'll pay you up to a particular point and we'll call you when it's all sorted out," she said. "It came totally out of the blue." Other actors, all of whom declined to be named, said they had been told immigration officials had shut down filming of the two-part mini-series, which was partly funded by the Australian government.

"Apparently they have not got all the necessary permits for filming so it's been postponed until they get them," an extra said. "They've gone to Jakarta to sort it out." Indonesian immigration officials would not comment. In Sydney, a spokeswoman for film company Kennedy Miller Features - the force behind blockbusters like Babe and Mad Max - said it had been involved in scripting the series.

But the series was now being produced by Golden Globe, a joint venture with Southern Star, the creator of soap dramas like Home And Away and TV hit Big Brother, she said. Southern Star refused to comment. The production, originally named Mango River but now referred to simply as The Bali Project, is majority funded by Australian pay-TV channel PMP/Showtime.

It is part funded by the Australian government's Film Finance Corporation. The FFC website described the series as an "explanation of how a coalition of national police forces investigated the first major act of terrorism in South-East Asia". Filming on the two-part, four-hour series - which was to star Australian A-list actor Hugo Weaving and Stingers actor Peter Phelps - began a fortnight ago in Bali.

The set at the Discovery Kartika Plaza Hotel in Kuta is 1.5km from the site of the nightclub strip blasted by terrorists in 2002, killing 202 people including 88 Australians. Australian police, forensic experts in particular, played a crucial role in helping to catch key suspects in the 2002 attack and have also been helping Indonesian police investigate the latest blasts.

Bali was rocked again by triple suicide blasts this month which killed 20 people, among them four Australians. The three suicide bombers also died. The script for the series on the 2002 attacks includes scenes in Jakarta and the central Java city of Solo, believed to be a base of support for the al-Qaeda-linked terror network Jemaah Islamiah blamed for the attacks.

The drama series is one of two productions on the original bombings. Perth-based company Electric Pictures Pty Ltd expects to start filming a documentary on the tragedy in January.

What did you expect of the Indonesian authorities? To afraid for the radicals at home and no respect and moral towards the victims.

political and immigration sensitivities
political sensitivities: yes obviously.
Immigration sensitivities: I don't understand. What has immigration to do with this? None of the victims, actors or other involved wants to immigrate.

It's like Yogya-Bali says: To afraid for the radicals at home and no respect and moral towards the victims.

Bali is a part of indonesia, people from outside Bali ("migrants") have the RIGHT to settled in Bali. . Everone know the terorist is coming from outside Bali .
The Balinese could blame "all" of the migrants.
(dus bevordert niet de harmonieuze contacten tussen de "autochtonen" en "allochtonen " voorzover het bestaat.)
