BANDAR LAMPUNG - The Lampung administration signed on Friday a cooperation agreement with state railway operator PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) to develop a railway network in the province. According to the agreement signed by Governor Sjachroedin ZP and PT KAI president Omar Berto, PT KAI provides two locomotives and commuter passenger cars, a railway master plan, railway infrastructure and stations, as well as unearthing existing railway.
"The railway-development program in Lampung can be carried out immediately, as the provincial administration has shown the will to do so, "It would be much slower if it was up to PT KAI only," Omar said. Meanwhile, Sjachroedin said that the five-year cooperation would include the Gunung Sugih in Central Lampung to Kota Metro and Pringsewu in Tanggamus regency routes, plus 10 stations.
When asked about the total funds needed for the cooperation, Sjachroedin said that the total was still being calculated. "But, both the provincial administration and PT KAI have prepared initial funds for surveys and other preliminary works. "We will arrive at a figure once we get the survey results. Beside, we also need the approval of the provincial legislative council," he said
