Golkar passes PDI-P, rivals reject tally JAKARTA - Golkar Party has narrowly overtaken President Megawati Sukarnoputri’s Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P), with more than 60% of the votes from the April 5 general election now counted. While analysts are predicting Golkar will surge further ahead as results continue to come in from the outer provinces, 19 other parties have said they will reject the election outcome because of rampant irregularities and alleged polling violations.
"We have decided to reject the election results and demanded that they be cancelled," the grouping’s spokesman, lawyer Adnan Buyung Nasution, was quoted as saying Saturday by Agence France-Presse. "There were too many cases of negligence and mistakes," he said after a meeting of representatives from the 19 parties. Two parties that had earlier supported calls for a recount – Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono’s Democrat Party and Rachmawati Sukarnoputri’s Marhaenisme Indonesia National Party – did not attend Saturday’s meeting.
The three remaining parties, which have not complained about the result, are PDI-P, Golkar, and Justice and Human Rights Minister Yusril Izha Mahendra’s Islam-based Crescent Star Party. On Tuesday, representatives of the 19 dissenting parties are due to meet with the General Elections Commission (KPU) to formally submit their complaints, although demands for a revote will no doubt fall on deaf ears.
Foreign election monitors have said the election was generally credible, free and fair, but the parties have complained that many eligible voters were not registered. They have also said there were indications of possible fraud in electronic tabulation of votes from the district level to the KPU headquarters. More than 147 million people were eligible to vote in Monday's elections. Precisely how many people voted is unclear, but turnout has been estimated at approximately 80%. As of 7am Sunday, the KPU had tallied more than 72.5 million votes. Golkar is ahead by the narrowest of margins, with 20.38%, followed by PDI-P with 20.37%.

Following is the latest vote tally from the KPU:
