HANOI (VIETNAM) - Vietnam and Indonesia will scrap visa restrictions on citizens from each country visiting for 30 days or less from Dec. 4, the foreign ministry here said on Monday. The visa-waiver scheme was signed in June during a visit to Vietnam by Indonesian President Megawati Soekarnoputri.
Indonesia becomes the fifth member of the 10-nation Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) to sign such an agreement with Vietnam after Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore and Thailand. Vietnam's visa-waiver scheme with Singapore came into effect on Monday. Indonesia and Vietnam forged diplomatic ties in 1955.
