JAKARTA - The number of arrivals and departures at Jakarta's Soekarno-Hatta International Airport plunged 56 percent in April from the same period last year due to the outbreak of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS). On April 24-30, the number of arrivals and departures stood at 26,693 and 24,739 respectively compared to 185,601 and 185,160 in April last year, said Engking Baihaki, spokesman for PT Angkasa Pura II, which manages the airport, here Friday.
He said the drop in the number of arrivals and departures would no doubt have an impact on the airport's revenues. "It will at least affect our revenue from airport tax and other sources," he said. To help foreign airline companies lower losses due to the downturn in the aviation industry, he said PT Angkasa Pura II would provide them with 20 percent to 25 percent discounts for several types of airport services, he said. Established on August 13, 1984, PT Angkasa Pura II now manages 10 airports in eastern Indonesia.
