SINGAPORE - Two persons, including a doctor, died from Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS), while six nurses suffering from the deadly flu-like disease were hospitalised today in Singapore. "Two SARS patients in intensive care passed away today," the Ministry of Health said in its daily update.
One was the mother of the first index case, referring to first SARS case in Singapore. The other was a doctor from Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH) who had attended to a SARS patient before being diagnosed with SARS, the ministry statement added. The statement said six nurses -- one from TTSH, two from Singapore General Hospital, two from Changi General Hostpital and one from a private nursing home -- suffering from SARS were hospitalised today.
Till now eight persons have died from the disease, 112 people have been diagnosed, which includes three children below 18 years. Twelve out of the 31 hospitalised patients are in intensive care, the ministry said adding the number of people under Home Quarantine Orders is 133. Meanwhile, the Health Ministry has urged the public to heed WHO's advice to postpone travel to Hong Kong and Guangdong.
Indonesia has four suspected cases
Meanwhile, Indonesia too reported having four suspected cases of SARS. The four patients are under observation at the Dr Sulianti Saroso Hospital for Infectious Diseases, Indonesian Health Minister Achmad Sujudi today said. The infection is yet to be confirmed pending the result of laboratory tests, Indonesian national news agency quoted Sujudi as saying in Jakarta.
