Bali tourists desperate to pack up KUTA - At The Pub, a traditional watering hole for Australians visiting Kuta, a solitary young couple were finishing their drinks and preparing to set off for the airport. Tenille Harris and her boyfriend Shaun Amiss - both from Perth and in their mid-twenties - had been in Kuta for just a day when the bomb exploded at the Sari Club. They had stopped for a quick beer in the nightclub and left shortly before the bomb went off.
They have cut their week-long holiday short, as have many other Australians who flock to Bali for the surf and the nightlife. Shaun said: "We're going home not so much because we're worried about staying, but more because everyone back home is worried about us." The pair said their families back in Australia had seen a lot of graphic images on the news, but in Kuta itself, it was proving hard to get much information about the blast.
"Our hotel's not saying much," said Tenille. The experience has left the couple wary of returning. Tenille told BBC News Online: "I wouldn't come back to Bali again. I had a bad experience here five years ago but I thought I would try again with Shaun."

'A film saved our lives'

It is not just Australians who are trying to leave the island as soon as they can. French tourists Emmanuelle Rosset, 26, and Amelie Coppel, 24, came to Kuta a month ago for the surf. Now they are trying - so far without much success - to change their flight to return home early. They have been left deeply shocked by the bombing, especially since they had been in the Sari Club just the night before.
But on Saturday night, they had decided to go to the cinema with some friends instead. "A bad English film perhaps saved our lives," said Amelie, speaking in her mother tongue. They felt the force of the explosion from the cinema, about a kilometre away. The screen shook. The audience turned in their seats, wondering what had happened - but everyone stayed inside.
"We feel lucky to be alive, but are sad that not everyone had the same luck," said Emmanuelle.

Checking in

The one thought in the women's minds is to get back home "to reassure our parents" and escape the ever-present images on TV and in the newspapers. "We just can't appreciate anything here any more," Emmanuelle added. However the stream of tourists is not just one-way. Holidaymakers are still arriving on the island, among them even Australians.
Adam Foster, 27, and his girlfriend Tegan Jackson, 20, were at the airport in Darwin on Sunday morning as news of the blast was just filtering through. Adam said: "I got a text message from my dad saying there'd been a bomb in Bali - but I just thought he was kidding." At the check-in desk, the couple were told there had been an explosion but details were sketchy.
Despite the news, Adam and Tegan still decided to get on the plane. "We're not worried about being here, we're not worried about the locals treating us differently," said Adam. "But what we are worried about is people worrying about us." The couple were trying to make the best of their week in Bali, staying away from the scene of the explosion and taking day trips to popular tourist attractions elsewhere on the island.
Adam and Tegan said they believed the incident was a one-off. "We're here for another six days and we want to make the best of it."
