JAKARTA - Attorney General Marzuki Darusman said on Friday that he had requested the National Police chief to summon the defense lawyers and family members of the fugitive son of former president Soeharto, Hutomo "Tommy" Mandala Putra, and to start anationwide operation to track him down. "Our priority is his lawyers as they have stated that they know of Tommy's whereabouts and have publicly acknowledged that the copies of the decree denying presidential clemency were properly certified," Marzuki told reporters before attending ameeting with economics ministers.
When asked when the summonses would be issued, Marzuki said,"I've conveyed the request and the summonses can be issued either today or tomorrow." When pressed further as to whether the lawyers or the members of the former first family were refusing to cooperate, Marzuki responded by saying,"According to the law, those who obstruct law enforcement officials in the performance of their duties can becharged with violating the criminal code."
Marzuki added that surveillance would be maintained on Tommy's residence in the Menteng area and its vicinity and other places where Tommy could be holed up. "The search for the fugitive will be carried out nationwide," he said.
