Indonesian government freezes 61 more flight permits The Indonesian government froze 61 more flight permits of five airline companies on Friday. "Based an audit results, 61 flight permits were issued to five airline companies, which have been found violating license regulations set by the government," Transportation Minister Ignasius Jonan announced during a press conference.

Batik Air to offer full service flights from May 3, 2013 Lion Air has officially launched their full service airline called Batik Air, which will begin operations on May 3, 2013 using 737-900ERs. The airline has also signed a commitment with Boeing to order five 787 Dreamliners for the airline, and intends to have them delivered by 2015, the first to order the type since Garuda Indonesia cancelled its firm order for 10 aircraft.

Malindo Air has started operations Malindo Air is a Malaysian-Indonesian airline founded in September 2012 by Lion Air (Indonesia) and NADI (Malaysia). The airline was granted their operating permits earlier this year. Shortly after, they started operations on flights between Kuala Lumpur, Kota Kinabalu and Kuching, all in Malaysia.

Batavia Air declared bankrupt by Jakarta court The Indonesian airline Batavia Air (PT Metro Batavia) has been declared bankrupt by a Jakarta court earlier today. This was decided upon after the airline had incurred a substantial debt to several debtors. Among the biggest debtors was lease company ILFC that demanded about five million US dollars from the airline.

Batavia Air flirts with AirAsia and fails Earlier in July this year, Batavia Air and AirAsia announced that Indonesia AirAsia would obtain an almost 80 percent share in Batavia Air. This lead to questions from the government as foreign companies are not allowed to own majority stakes in Indonesian companies. While this construction via an Indonesian investor are fully legal, it was an undesirable situation.

Lion Air worst in delayed flights Lion Air has been ranked the worst in the number of delayed flights in the first six months of this year, scoring 70.16 percent in on-time performance, the government says. Garuda Indonesia topped the performance with 86.22 percent, followed by Sriwijaya Air with 76.12 and Indonesia Air Asia with 72.90 percent.

Flying Merpati Nusantara? Are you sure? Figures from ticketindonesia.info show that the airline with the most canceled flights in their name is Merpati Nusantara. This Indonesian state-owned company, also partially owned by Garuda Indonesia, seems to have a peculiar way of conducting business; selling tickets, canceling flights and then wait for months to pay back the money paid for tickets on those canceled flight. At least it seems that way.

Merpati targets 3.3 million passengers in 2011 PT Merpati Nusantara Airlines is optimistic that they will carry 3.3 million passengers in 2011, an increase of 10% over the total carried in 2010. The commercial manager of Merpati, Tonny A. Achmad, said the higher target is being driven by the commencement of service over a number of new domestic routes flown by the airline.
